Walking on Sunshine

Summer is my favorite season of the year. It is a time of sunshine, swimming, and sandals (well, actually if you live where I live, that's all the time). Nonetheless, everyone seems to have a little more spring in their step during summer. Maybe it's because we have more free time to enjoy the company of our friends and family or maybe it's because we can finally relax a bit from a year of hard work. While these are valid reasons, I think another reason for why summer is so sunny is because of the sun itself.
Both psychological studies and conventional  wisdom have shown that the weather does in fact affect our moods. I certainly experienced this recently. Just a few weeks ago I remember  I felt anxious, testy, and lonely when it was cloudy and foggy all throughout the day- not a spot of sunshine peeked through. Now as a resident of Southern California, I found this absolutely unacceptable for the month of July! But alas, as I drove to class the other day, "Here Comes the Sun" came on the radio and coincidentally,  in the sky. I immediately felt a little cheerier. And while the heat may be a little uncomfortable, I've found that with the sunshine I am more passionate, friendly, and can you believe it?- happy.
So soak up that sun! According to the Martha Stewart Magazine, spending just five minutes outside doing a fun activity "boosts your self-esteem significantly." Also- you'll get the benefits of Vitamin D, which buffers your immune system along with many other positive side effects. Sunshine offers limitless rewards. Are you walking on sunshine? I am today- and "don't it feel good!"
