How to Get Back Up

Sometimes it’s just not a cake walk. In fact sometimes, it feels like a spinach walk--absolutely terrible. With grades on the horizon, it’s not always easy to be gleeful. And I’m not. It’s one thing to know that you didn’t work as hard as you could have for a grade, but there’s nothing more aggravating than knowing that even when you’ve worked as hard as you possibly could, it’s still not good enough. It’s an extremely defeating feeling, especially when we’re supposed to be so cheerful for the holiday season.
But even though we may feel disappointed, it doesn’t mean that it should bring us down for more than a few minutes. Here’s how to get back your happy when you feel helpless:
1. Give yourself time to vent: Sure, cry if you need to. (Who me?) Talk to the people who support you and let others comfort you.
2. Keep it in perspective: How important is it really? This too shall pass, as My Auntie Nette always reminds me.
3. Take some time to relax: When you’ve worked so hard, just have some fun! Give yourself a break every now and then before you burn out.
4. Talk to people: People who aren’t in your shoes can remind you that your shoes aren’t as bad as you may think.
5. Remember you can only do your best: If you’ve done that, then that’s all you can do. As hard as it may be, it does no good to get upset about something you can’t control.
I hope this helps a little! I have to admit, I’m certainly writing from personal experience right now. (Philosophy paper?) But alas, winter break is here (or on the horizon) and we should be happy!
Keep shining,
