Finding the Right Door

Sometimes I wish I could be one of those people. One of those people who just know what they want to be and it’s that simple. A lawyer. A doctor. A veterinarian. Not that those careers are by any means easy to pursue, but at least you can have a steady plan to follow. You can know what is expected of you and either meet or fail those expectations. Sure, there’s a bit of luck involved with every career you pursue, but at least with a job like that, you can know what road you’ve decided to travel on.
For the rest of us, myself included, every day seems to throw a new curve, a new stop sign, or a new destination. I’ve often wondered, how is a 19 year old supposed to know what they want to do with their life? And the scariest part to me is that, for many, no matter what the age, there are people who never quite figure out what they wanted to do with their life. Midlife crisis anyone?
I talked about this at great length with my parents the other night. And after hearing their take, I think it’s best to keep as many doors open as possible. People don’t open the doors for you; you have to do that for yourself. Just like in Monster’s Inc. (you know how I love Disney), it may take a while to find the right door, but eventually you’ll find where your heart feels at home.
So try out as many new adventures as you can. You don’t have to feel extremely busy to be productive, but try to find new opportunities that make you feel like your time is well spent both for you and the people you are spending your time with. Just as we seek to find happiness for ourselves, may we try to give happiness to others by opening as many doors as possible.
Keep shining,
