What Do You Believe?

Do you remember what Christmas was like when you were a child? As I watch “Miracle on 34th Street” (my favorite Christmas movie), I am reminded of the wonder and magic of this time of year. One of my favorite quotes from the movie is this:
“I'm not just a whimsical figure who wears a charming suit and affects a jolly demeanor. You know, I... I... I'm a symbol. I'm a symbol of the human ability to be able to suppress the selfish and hateful tendencies that rule the major part of our lives. If... you can't believe, if you can't accept anything on faith, then you're doomed for a life dominated by doubt.”
Do you remember believing in Santa Claus? I certainly do. We would bake cookies for him and we’d even leave out carrots for the reindeer. I would go to bed anxiously at night and I would dash to the Christmas tree in the morning to see what was under the tree. I hope you have fond memories of Christmas as a child as well—this time of year can be the happiest for children.
While most of us are too old to believe in Santa Claus, we can still have faith in other aspects of our lives. We can have faith in the goodness of humanity, faith in the capability to love unconditionally, and faith in the hope for happiness.
What do you believe in this year?
Keep shining,
