Open the Door to Your Life
I could use a huge dose of positivity right now! I have to admit, the stress of school has been sucking up my sunniness. I want to stay upbeat but I don’t think it’s helping that I’ve been learning about depression the past two weeks. With so much discussion on melancholia, mood disorders, and suicide—it’s high time for an extra helping of happiness!During weeks like these when we all need a little pick-me-up, I wonder, what can we do to cheer each other up? I say we specifically because I think we are so much happier when we are surrounded by others on a fairly regular basis. Letting ourselves sit in isolation doesn’t do us any favors, at least it doesn’t for me (as I’ve learned this past week sitting in my room studying alone). So here’s a Sunny Suggestion for the day: Have an open door policy. Whether you live in a dorm hall or not, I’m metaphorically speaking here. Sure, it’d be nice if we could all leave our actual doors to our rooms open but unfortunately there are dangerous people who walk into doors that are closed (as I know from recent experience). But how can we leave our lives open to the people who want to walk in? I think it’s always good to keep an open mind to the people who want to make their way into your life. And vice versa. Make an attempt to meet people and then to actually get to know them. Not everyone who walks up to your doorstep wants to sell you a magazine. Instead, buy into an amazing friendship, a trusting companion, and a fun pal to share laughs with. This week I’m focusing on letting people into my life. I hope you’ll do the same. And perhaps you’ll reopen doors that we’re previously closed. There’s never an ending to new beginnings.Keep shining,The Sunny Girl, Lauren CookPlease follow me on Twitter by clicking here!
