Weather Report: Week 16

As Taylor Swift says, “today was a fairytale.” No, I wasn’t whisked away by prince charming, instead it was a perfect day spent with my wonderful, funny, and caring dad. After a long and exhausting week of midterms, it was such a nice reprieve to celebrate Dad’s Day together by going to the Rose Bowl for some good ol’ UCLA football (even though we lost). More importantly, it was one of those days when you realize how important it is to be thankful for all of the amazing people and privileges we have in our lives.
What are you thankful for today? Are you grateful for the opportunity to learn? The chance to achieve a life-long dream? Maybe you’re grateful for the ability to walk, to see, or to just feel healthy as my dad and I were talking about today. It can be easy to take such seemingly unnoticeable gifts for granted until they’re gone—imagine how your life would change. And that’s the thing, life is always changing (for ultimately the better I’d like to think), so it is essential that we cherish the things that bring us joy in our life.
What happened this week at The Sunny Side Up?
  • I can finally breathe again after a hectic week of midterms and reports. I have to admit, it was a challenging week in terms of happiness but the light at the end of the tunnel got me through it!
  • I’m applying for an internship on a Happiness study that is working to scientifically improve the happiness level of millions of Americans—stay tuned!
  • I’m celebrating the Halloween season! Pumpkins, costumes, and more than anything, candy unfortunately. Hope you’re making the most of your October!
Next week at The Sunny Side Up!
  • I am planning a retreat for my sorority and I’m always trying to add a little extra cheer to our house. I’ll also be planning a “roundtable” so that girls feel like their voice is being heard. Any retreat ideas?
  • I’m conducting Sunny Star interviews right now—please let me know if you have any great ones!
  • Our presents ceremony is tomorrow and I’m really looking forward to celebrating my Little Sister (in Chi Omega) as she joins the sisterhood. And of course this calls for a dance party later in the week!
Also, is there a story you’d like me to cover? Or a topic that particularly interests you? Feel free to share with me some of your ideas!
I hope you have an especially Happy Halloween!  The holiday season is getting in full swing if you ask me, and that means it’s the “most wonderful time of the year” if we choose to make it that way. I hope you have a fantastic week and that you continue to share your sunshine with others!
Keep shining,
The Sunny Girl, Lauren Cook
