From Sappy to Happy

I’ve always validated my love for “chick flicks” because, well, I’m a chick. It’s to be expected! After watching Letters to Juliet yesterday, alongside my fellow “chicks,” I realized how much happiness potential these movies have. It’s an opportunity to forget about reality (and what many real guys are like—sorry for the jab) and it gives us girls some hope—that’s hopefully not unfounded.
I’ve taken more notice of film lately due to the class I’m taking, which is The History of the American Motion Picture. I find film to be highly intriguing and entertaining and I love to watch movies when I have the time. And while I love a perplexing movie or even a troubling movie (Schindler’s List was phenomenal), I will always enjoy the token chick flick. Perhaps lacking in thoughtful depth, it is rich in romance and happiness—at least by the ending.
My Favorite Chick Flicks of all Time (Gents, don’t pretend you don’t like some of these):
1. Sleepless in Seattle
2. When Harry Met Sally
3. You’ve Got Mail (Do you think I like Meg Ryan?)
4. A Walk to Remember
5. Dirty Dancing
6. Steel Magnolias
7. Father of the Bride
8. The Notebook (I had to say it)
9. Pretty Woman
10. My Best Friend's Wedding
I think that’s about as chick-flicky as it can get. And while there may be a few tears involved, I always love watching one of the classics. It never gets old.
What are some of your favorites?
Keep shining,
The Sunny Girl, Lauren Cook
