It’s amazing how a little setback can become a source of inspiration in your life. People offer words of wisdom that you may not have heard otherwise, and new opportunities suddenly become clear to you. It can bring a whole new level of motivation. This is all if we allow it to. Of course, we can wallow in our situation, blaming ourselves or others for why things didn’t go our way. But instead, I choose today to be grateful for my setback and take faith in the fact that everything happens for a reason.
I’m referring to my Sunny Set #253 post, to become a UCLA campus tour guide. I found out yesterday whether I got an interview or not, and I did not. Granted, I knew they took about 50 of the 350 applications so it was slim pickings to begin with, but it was disappointing nonetheless. I always try to hope for the best and expect the worst but still, it was a hard pill to swallow looking at the list and not seeing my name.
That’s okay, though. It wasn’t meant to be. No wait, it was meant to be. I have hope that new opportunities will come along and that I will be led to where I belong. The important thing is to not give up. Of course I could see it as a sign of rejection, but really, they’re doing me a favor. We must always keep trying—we have to keep forging ahead and walking forward, even if we trip along the way. Call me the queen of clichés but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
