Building Your Friendship Muscle

Find yourself a beach. And if you don’t have a beach, then find yourself a lake, a stream, a river, or even an inflatable pool if you must. Fun things happen around water, as I have witnessed yesterday. You may have seen me mention earlier in the week that I have been planning a beach bonfire with one of my best friends for our sorority as an end-of-the-year retreat. Well it happened yesterday and I think (hope) everyone had a wonderful time!We went to the Beach Club in Santa Monica and they were amazing hosts for our sorority. From the open grill to the bonfire and smores, they were so thoughtful and they made the day run so smoothly. But more than food or a campfire, we had an amazing time just being together. People need companionship and having a relaxing afternoon with my friends (especially right after my final) came at the perfect time.Whether it was just reading magazines or playing out in the ocean, I treasured the day and the people who were in it. I encourage you to celebrate your friendships. I know I say that a fair amount, but it’s an active daily process that you need to build like a muscle. No one likes flabby friendships. Make your friendships strong, resilient, and long—now there’s a friendship metaphor for you.Make it a great day.Keep shining,The Sunny Girl, Lauren Cook
